We have two workshops, "Counselling Men Effectively" and "Exploring Male Sexuality" being sponsored by the Nanaimo Men's Resource Centre later this month. These workshops will be held in Nanaimo, BC and registration is limited, but spaces are still available. Posters are attached!

 

On Thursday, November 24 and Friday morning, November 25, we are bringing in Dr. Wray Pascoe from Winnipeg to facilitate a workshop on "Counselling Men Effectively".

 

On Saturday , November 26, Dr. Pascoe will be facilitating a workshop on "Exploring Male Sexuality".

Dr. Wray Pascoe has worked with men in a variety of settings; private practice with professional men, a federal prison, unskilled labourers and men with addictions and/or issues with depression. In addition Dr. Pascoe has worked with survivors of the Residential School System and has presented this workshop throughout the United States and Canada. Dr. Pascoe has served on the Editorial Board Journal of Couples Therapy and is an ad hoc reviewer for other journals.

 

The objectives of Counselling Men Effectively are to help participants to:

 

Engage and keep male clients from opting out of therapy too early

Maximize the impact of the initial session

Learn to deal with the clients' anger and tears

Address overt and covert addictions

Help the client rediscover the wounded "little boy"

Deal with deficits and advantages of being a male or female counsellor

Become comfortable with uncomfortable subjects

Work with suicidal clients

Understand their role in counselling men effectively

Day two will provide clinical examples & intensive discussion of the difficult client (grandiose narcissistic professional male, power /control)

Develop creative & innovative strategies to apply in their practice

About the Presenter:

 

Dr. Wray Pascoe is a psychotherapist and sex therapist who has presented workshops throughout Canada, U.S., Mexico and the U.K. Dr. Pascoe has taught human sexuality at various medical schools and universities. In Dr. Pascoe's practice, he specializes in working with men and their issues.
